CURRENT SERVER STATUS: Down
Comodo Unite: Join a Network...

SInce the intallation process is kinda complex, I made a video of it:

Don't be discouraged by the amount of steps, some are simple ones like "Select all files and Copy" or "Right-Click to paste" I just put it as straight-forward that I could think of, so no one will have issues hopefully. As for PlayOnline and FFXI, this will only work if you own a copy of FFXI. I suggest the FFXI 2008 Ultimate Collection with all expansion packs, for really cheap.
Really cheap online (I believe this is a physical copy) - ($9.99): www.playonline.com/ff11us/intro/shop.html
Or get it from steam (Download) immediately - ($19.99): store.steampowered.com/app/39250/
PS. you don't need any of the addons (which are extra "expansions") past Wings of the Goddess.
NOTICE: It is extremely important that these steps are done in order. If you have a previously installed version of FFXI you will need to uninstall it, if you are using Windows 7 or Vista make absolutely sure that the play online file that you get from FFXI's site is the one you're using and the first thing you install! Otherwise the launcher will not work for you.
SE came out with a major update 12/12/12, just when we started to promote this server. Many people have been having problems because of it. I've added a link to the Dev's 12-12-12 fix in the "Setting up Launcher" part of the posts as well as adding instructions for the "Alternative Launcher" Thank you to everyone who has stuck with us though this!
Installing the Game
Step 1: Install PlayOnline
If using Windows 7 or Vista, download this PlayOnline client, don't use the old one on the installation disks or downloads.
www.playonline.com/ff11us/download/media/vista01.html
Step 2: Install Final Fantasy XI
Step 3: Install the expansions...
Update Game for Private Servers
For Retail Users: This update is not optional. On the plus side, the dreaded step will only like around 30 mins - 1 hr for you.
Step 4: Download PXI-FFXI-Update from here (file may take some time to begin downloading, please wait at least 2 minutes for re-direct)
www.dropbox.com/s/6muhuhmen5avh7a/PXI-FFXI-UpdatePatch.zip
Step 5: Upzip PXI-FFXI-Update
Step 6: Open the folder, select all files Ctrl+C (Or right click - copy).
Step 7: Go to the "PlayOnline/Squareenix/Final Fantasy XI" directory..
For 32-Bit machines:
C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI
For 64-Bit machines:
C:\Program Files (x86)\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI
Step 8: Ctrl+V (Or right click - paste) and say yes to any overwrites.
Step 8-1: Open PlayOnline and download the update
Step 8-2: Start PlayOnline for members
Step 9: At the Add Member page enter anything you like for the Member Name.
Step 10: Enter ABCD1234 for the PlayOnline ID
Step 11: Select Register, Yes, OK.
Step 12: Select Check Files on the left of the screen.
NOTE: You must attempt to sign in once before it will give you the option to file check FFXI.
Step 13: Select Final Fantasy XI from the drop-down menu.
Step 13-2: After about 10 minutes it will ask you if you want to do a file repair, do that. This will take a long time (look at step 14) This is what I dub "The dreaded step"
THE DREADED STEP
Step 14: After 5-7 hours or so of updating, FFXI should be up to date.
Step 15: Close the PlayOnline Viewer.
Make Data Accessible
Step 16: Copy the data folder at PlayOnline\SquareEnix\PlayOnlineViewer\data to the Final Fantasy XI directory at PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI.
Afterwards you should have the directory PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\data.
Set up Launcher (Or use the Alternative Launcher below)
NOTE: ffxi-boot may not work for the EU version of the game, I have no way of testing that. If it doesn't please use the Alternative Launcher.
Step 17: Download ffxi-boot.zip from here:
sinisterskies.freeforums.org/download/file.php?id=2
Step 17-1: Change FFXI Config to "Run in Windowed mode."
Step 18: Extract the FFXI-Boot files (ffxi-boot.exe & ffxi-boot.ini) into the PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI directory.
Step 19: Open ffxi-boot.ini in a text editor.
Step 20: Change Server IP to 5.4.40.211 (My Comodo Unite address)
Step 20-1:Get Comodo Unite here and connect to network mysticffxi (IP: 5.4.40.211)!
www.comodo.com/home/email-security/vpn-access.php
(make sure you get the right version for your computer, 32-bit or 64-bit)
Conect to Network... > mysticffxi
Password: password (I think I disabled password though)
IP: 5.4.40.211!
Step 20-2: If you are having problems with this launcher it is because the newer packets from FFXI's newest update on 12/12/12. In order to play normally, unzip this file into your FFXI directory and say yes to any overwrites:
www.mediafire.com/?941p5oilr9elqi1
Creating an account and Login
Step 21: Run ffxi-boot.exe and choose option 2; Create a new account.
The username and password should be at least 6 alphanumeric characters long and no longer than 16.
Step 22: You can now save the username and password into the ffxi-boot.ini or Client.ini if you wish to use auto-login.
Step 23: Choose option 1; Login using existing account
Step 24: Login with username and password.
Step 25: FFXI should load and be on the splash screen. Choose Accept.
New Characters: 3 Strikes, you're in!
Dealing with the "When you make a new character, 3 strikes you're in" rule that all private servers have...
(These steps are only for when you make a new character, if you already have one, just log in)
Step 26: Create a Character, Select a Country, then choose Yes to Register and begin play.
Step 27: Select the newly created character then login
The first time you attempt to log into your character, your client will crash, or you will get an error.
Step 28: Use FFXI-Boot to get back to the character screen, then login. The Second time you try to log onto your character, this time the client will act like it's loading the world, but instead it will give you an error.
Step 29: Do not try to log back into your character, you will just get the same error again. Instead, select "Back" which will exit out of FFXI.
Step 30: Use FFXI-Boot to get back to the character screen, then login. The third time you try to log onto your character will will get another error - this is your third strike...
Step 31: Use FFXI-Boot to get back to the character screen, then login. Now you will be able to play, and will not have any problems with the strikes, unless you make another character, then you have to do the 3 strikes all over again for that character, but all your other character will still be fine.
Suggestions
Dashizer's Suggestion: if you are trying to use the ffxi-boot.exe while using windows 7 your boot might become unresponsive; to fix this problem run compatibility mode using Vista SP2. (I'm not having this problem and I'm using Windows 7 and running ffxi-boot as administrator, however this is working for him [kinda].)

Suggestions
- You may want to make a shortcut to FFXI-Boot on your desktop. (Right click FFXI-Boot - Send to desktop (Shortcut)).
- You may want to start FFXI in windowed mode. That has to be done though the FFXI Config file. Start>PlayOnline>Final Fantasy XI>Final Fantasy XI Config
Then just click the check to "Start FFXI in windowed mode" - List of all the files needed (Also linked above):
